Anoushka Shankar

Anoushka is a British-American sitarist and musician. She was the very first and youngest female to win a British House of Commons Award. Anoushka Shankar is a rising star on the Indian sitar. She is Ravi Shankar's pupil, and the daughter of Ravi Shankar. Born in London and grew up in New Delhi, she spent the early years of her life bouncing between London and New Delhi. In the age of thirteen, she gave her debut performance at New Delhi. Then she moved in Encinitas CA, where she received the High School diploma with honors in 1999. Even though she's very young Anouskha is a star in her performing and recording career. She has performed with her father on stage for many years. The first album she released as a solo artist, Anourag, was released in 1998. The Grammy Award-winning live at Carnegie Hall was released two years later than her first solo album. The stage work she has done is vast as she has appeared in all of the major stages in the world. Her career extends beyond music. In 2003, she played the role in the film Dance Like a Man where she plays an aspiring Bharat Natyam dancer. Anoushka was raised in England, but spent most of her growing up split between London as well as Delhi. After that, she relocated to California and enrolled in the high school. When she was nine years old, she began her studies in music under her father, who made her debut on the sitar four years later, at his birthday party in Delhi. Anoushka gained a variety of valuable experiences by accompanying her dad on his world tour. This included performing in Carnegie Hall and at Peter Gabriel's WOMAD festival, as well as performing together with George Harrison.
